A cracked, faded, or missing skimmer lid is more than a cosmetic issue — it's a trip hazard and an open invitation for debris to bypass the skimmer entirely. EZ Pools carries replacement skimmer lids and covers for the most widely installed pool skimmers from Hayward and Pentair, in both standard and wide-mouth sizes for in-ground and above-ground applications.

Finding the Right Skimmer Lid

Skimmer lids are model-specific, so the most reliable way to find the correct replacement is to locate your skimmer model number — it's typically stamped inside the skimmer body, below the water line. Hayward's SP1070 SkimMaster and SP1082 Auto-Skim series are among the most common in-ground skimmers in the US, and each uses a distinct lid. The SPX1070C is the standard lid for the SP1070 series, while the SP1082 takes a different cover altogether. Pentair's Sta-Rite U-3 and Bermuda skimmers similarly use their own lid dimensions.

If the model number is no longer legible, measuring the opening is the next best approach. The key dimensions are the outer lip diameter and whether the lid sits flush or raised above the deck. Most standard in-ground skimmer lids are round, but some Hayward wide-mouth models use a rectangular cover — so shape matters too before you order.

Skimmer Lid Materials and Deck Compatibility

Most replacement skimmer lids are molded in ABS or high-density polyethylene — both hold up well under UV exposure and foot traffic for residential use. Color is worth paying attention to if aesthetics matter: standard lids come in white or beige, and while an exact color match isn't always possible on an older skimmer, getting close to the original is usually achievable with OEM parts.

For commercial pools or high-traffic decks, lid load rating is something to check. Standard residential lids are rated for incidental foot traffic, but if the skimmer is located in a frequently walked area a reinforced or commercial-rated cover is worth the upgrade. Hayward offers collar and lid assemblies for situations where the deck collar itself has deteriorated alongside the lid, which can simplify the repair to a single part order rather than sourcing the two separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find the right replacement skimmer lid?
Start with your skimmer model number, which is usually stamped inside the skimmer body. Match that to the corresponding lid SKU. If the model number isn't readable, measure the opening diameter and note whether the lid is round or rectangular — then compare against the specs on each product page.
What is the most common Hayward skimmer lid?
The SPX1070C is one of the most widely used Hayward skimmer lids, fitting the SP1070 SkimMaster series which is installed in a large number of in-ground pools. The SP1082 Auto-Skim uses a different cover. Always confirm your skimmer model number before ordering to ensure the correct fit.
Can I replace just the skimmer lid without replacing the whole skimmer?
Yes, in most cases the lid is a standalone replacement part. If the deck collar has also deteriorated, Hayward offers collar and lid assemblies that let you replace both components at once. If the skimmer body itself is damaged, you may need a full unit replacement — EZ Pools carries complete skimmers in our complete pool skimmers collection.
Are skimmer lids interchangeable between brands?
Generally no. Skimmer lids are designed to fit specific skimmer models, and dimensions vary enough between Hayward, Pentair, and other manufacturers that cross-brand compatibility is not reliable. Stick to the lid specified for your skimmer model for a proper fit.
Where can I find skimmer baskets or other skimmer parts?
EZ Pools carries a full range of skimmer replacement parts. Shop pool skimmer baskets for basket replacements, or visit our pool skimmers hub for the full category including complete units and parts.
