Hayward Salt Cell Models — Which One Do You Have?

Hayward's salt chlorination lineup covers three main product lines. The AquaRite is the most common in-ground system — it uses a TurboCell (T-CELL-3, T-CELL-9, or T-CELL-15) paired with a control unit or power center. The cell rating corresponds to pool size: the T-CELL-3 covers pools up to 15,000 gallons, the T-CELL-9 up to 25,000 gallons, and the T-CELL-15 up to 40,000 gallons. When replacing a TurboCell, matching the pool size to the correct cell capacity is important — undersizing a cell for the pool volume puts the cell under constant strain and shortens its lifespan.

The AquaTrol is Hayward's above-ground salt system, available in two versions: the AQ-TROL-RJ for return-jet plumbing and the AQ-TROL-HP for hose-end connections. Both are complete systems that include the control unit and cell. The Salt & Swim 3C is an older above-ground system that uses the W3SAS-CELL replacement cell and W3SAS-PRO power supply — still a widely installed system with full parts availability here.

If your system is showing a "no flow" error and your pump and filter are operating normally, the flow switch is the first thing to check.

The GLX-CELL-UNION union assembly connects the TurboCell to your plumbing and is a common source of leaks as O-rings age — replacement is straightforward and inexpensive. The GLX-XFMR transformer powers the control unit and is occasionally the cause of a completely unresponsive system when other components check out fine. For winterization, Hayward's GLX-CELL-PIPE dummy cell placeholder protects your plumbing and control unit while the TurboCell is removed for off-season storage.
