Description

Perlite Media is a lightweight, porous filtration material derived from volcanic glass that expands when heated. This premium filter media provides superior water clarity by trapping particles as small as 2-5 microns while allowing for excellent flow rates and reduced backwashing frequency.

Its natural composition makes it eco-friendly, and its long-lasting durability delivers exceptional filtration performance for both residential and commercial pools and spas. Perlite provides the perfect balance of filtration efficiency and operational cost savings.

Directions & Dosage- Perlite Filter Media

Simple Steps:
  1. Check your filter manual for specifics
  2. Measure half the weight you'd use with DE
  3. Mix with water to create a slurry
  4. Add through the skimmer while filter is running
  5. Backwash when pressure increases 8-10 PSI
Why It Works:
  1. Perlite is lighter and more porous than DE
  2. It's volcanic rock that filters just as effectively
  3. You get the same filtration with less product
  4. Remember to never run your filter without the media coating the grids!

How does Perlite Media compare to sand or DE (diatomaceous earth) filtration?

Unlike sand which typically filters particles down to 20-40 microns, Perlite Media captures particles as small as 2-5 microns, rivaling DE's filtration quality. However, Perlite avoids the environmental and health concerns associated with DE powder. Perlite requires less frequent backwashing than sand, saving water and chemicals, while providing better water clarity and longer filter runs between cleanings.

How much Perlite Media do I need for my filter and how often should I replace it?

For most residential pool filters, you'll need approximately 7-10 lbs of Perlite Media per 100 square feet of filter area (check your filter manufacturer's specifications for exact requirements). Under normal conditions, Perlite should be replaced once per season or when you notice decreased filter performance after proper cleaning. Unlike DE, Perlite doesn't need to be replenished after each backwash, making it more economical and user-friendly for pool owners.
